To whom it may concern.
I am worried that the use of small,hand-held lasers of the type used for
rangefinding may be used against occupying IFOR troops. This is not some
kind of joke,
nor is it science fiction fantasy.Indeed,if I were a guerrilla
fighter,this tool-turned
-weapon would attract my attention for several reasons. They don't kill, but
they do
blind, and a hand-held unit can do this at ranges up to 10K.A laser
rangefinder is
light-weight(1.5 kilos). It requires no ammunition other than batteries. It
makes no
sound, and the light beam is invisible to the eye.It is small, can be easily
concealed,
and at a distance it can be indistinguishable from an ordinary pair of bino's.
This weapon would make an ideal terror weapon. Were it to be used in place of a
sniper's rifle, soldiers who have seen their comrades go blind would become
afraid to
leave the safety of their vehicles and bunkers.Anyone who ventured out
into the open
would run the risk of losing their eyesight to an enemy that cannot be
seen or heard.
Think about it.
I sincerely urge those groups or individuals who are not happy with the IFOR
prescence in Bosnia to please show some restraint with these weapons.I
know that they
are readily available on the open market;Russia,France,Israel,Germany, the
U.S.,etc.
And remember,it would not be fair to use these on your enemies!
