Hi Ivo,
I'm sure there are lots of people like myself who look forward to
reading what you write and send out over Zamir.
I really liked your last piece, as always. Don't join the militia just
yet, though! I think a lot of Americans are going to get more and more
tired of the kind of banking practices you wrote about, and then those
practices will change. As an American who has lived outside of the
United States for a long time, I've come to appreciate the way change
occurs in American society when enough people demand it. It may take
longer than we want, but it happens.
Besides, have you had to deal with any European banks lately? If so,
then you know they make American banks look like a customer's paradise
by comparison. In Germany, you can pay $2.75 (DM 4.00) for making a $275
(DM 400) withdrawal from your own account at an ATM. Terrific, isn't it?
Thank God Citibank is in Europe. It may not seem so wonderful to people
in the States, but compared to German banks Citibank practically gives
money away.
Anyway, all that's a long way from Bosnia. You were right. It's an
indescribable tragedy that all those people were killed Monday in
Sarajevo. If any good comes from that evil act, it may be that their
deaths will represent a turning point in the Balkan situation. Now more
people may take action to bring about conditions where everyone there
who is good at heart - among the Croats, the Moslems, and the Serbs -
can live and work together in peace.
Sincerely,
Bob Bennett
