Hi Ivo,
I don't understand what you mean, or what I should do, when you say my

I may not be the only one who will "bounce off" the zamir-chat list, if it
continues to be monopolized by Bob Bennet's fictional monologues to President
Clinton and instant rejoinders from "doctorb" and "Ivo." Our colleague from
Hull reminded us of the intended purpose of this conference.

I heartily agree with the comments from Charles Naef in respect of the
preponderance of inappropriate and sometimes over-intellectualised and
opinionated postings on the list. There are many other places for that.
My respect and hope goes out to all of you who in the midst of chaos and
brutalism cling on to humanity.

Hi Ivo,
Many thanks for your note. In my case, I guess it was "imperfect earthling
technnology," which actually I think is pretty amazing, but that's another
story. Anyway, I haven't sent - and won't send - anything over 40K!
All the best,
Bob Bennett

The international reaction to the war in Bosnia-Hercegovina is shameful.
The morally indefensible policy to prevent the Bosnians from defending
themselves, yet refusing to protect civilians makes me wonder what has
gone wrong with the world. UN troops watch idly while innocents are
deliberately targeted and shelled, and only return fire when they themselves
come under attack has me questioning where the PROTECTION comes in in UNPROFOR.
And the Clinton policy toward the war seems to be to pray that when he wakes
up in the morning it will all have been a bad dream. The administration thinks
if they can get through a day, or a week, without having to actually act one
way or another, it's doing pretty well. I just don't get it.

Subject: From Detroit to Sarajevo
Message-ID: <950824081624_100440.270_BHG155-1@CompuServe.COM>
Dear President Clinton:
No doubt you've seen the news reports about the Detroit woman who was
beaten and ultimately died, while a number of onlookers allegedly stood
by and did nothing to help. The incident is being compared to the Kitty
Genovese case in New York some years ago, where another young woman's
cries for help were ignored. She too died in the attack.
Many in the United States are said to be asking themselves, "What kind
of society have we become where we allow such things to happen?"
Certainly a reasonable question, but some of us think it has broader
implications.
Seven more people were reported killed Tuesday by the renewed Serb
shelling of Sarajevo, four others were murdered there in the same way
the day before. Many here in Europe see similarities between what
happened in Detroit and New York and what has been happening in the
Balkans: America has stood by and done very little to help the Bosnian
Moslems in the face of Serb aggression.
Yesterday CNN anchor Reid Collins talked with Colonel Edward Cowan,
former British Defense and Military Attache in Belgrade. According to
Colonel Cowan, the arms embargo has been unfair to the Croatians, but
particularly unjust to the Bosnian Moslems. Serbs, though, are able to
manufacture their own weapons, hardly affected by sanctions which are,
as Colonel Cowan indicated, extremely porous.
Mr. President, something still has to be done to correct this injustice.
In a short time Congress will be back in session, and the question of
the unilateral lifting of the arms embargo against Bosnia will again be
considered. Many of us, both in Europe and America, are hoping you will
bring no pressure to bear on Senators and Congressmen who will want to
vote to override your veto.
Negotiations alone haven't worked with the Serbs in the past.
Does anyone still believe negotiations alone will work in the future?
Sincerely yours,
Robert J. Bennett
